"The First Lady of Big Cats"

Linda Wain S.O.F.A is an internationally recognised artist and has original work in public and private collection throughout the world. Linda is well respected by her peers for her realistic rendering of all types of wildlife.

Prior to specialising in Fine Art, Linda's talent as a first class artist was originally recognised by Royal Crown Derby for whom she painted for many years.  Since turning professional Linda has produced artwork for many prestigious organisations such as the World Wildlife Fund, the R.S.P.C.A. and the P.D.S.A.  Linda is known amongst her contemporaries as the "First Lady of Big Cats" and raises attention and funds for many charitable organisations for which she is patron.
Linda has exhibited her work in front of Royalty and through her work and public profile raises a great deal of money and publicity for the organisations to which she is connected.

Linda is a full juried member of the Society of Feline Artists and also the Wildlife Art Society.

Linda loves painting British wildlife but is in heaven when it comes to painting Wolves and especially the Tigers and other big cats for which she is considered an expert.  Linda feels so privileged that, because of her connections within the animal world, she is allowed close up access and knowledge of her subjects.  Indeed Linda has carefully studied and met all of the subjects she has painted, even going on safari to remote parts of the world.  Linda is then able to transmit to paper the very individual character of each animal.  Many people have said that Linda appears to breathe life into her work or that they expect the fur to move or an eye to blink at any moment.

Linda travels extensively around the UK and abroad in her quest to find suitable subjects for her wildlife paintings.  She carefully studies her chosen subjects in order to ensure great accuracy of details and explains that composition ideas can be generated in the most unusual locations.

Linda freely admits that she "is a dreamer", most artists are.

Linda is a perfectionist with her art and meticulous attention is paid to anatomy and habitat.  She is inspired by the way light falls on the animals she loves to paint.  Linda enjoys the hues and textures that the light produces.  A glossy black coat is rarely black but reflects many of the colours surrounding it.  You need to study the light for a long time as well as the character of the animal.

Wild animals are elusive and run away from human contact, so, Linda loves to bring these animals to people to be enjoyed in all their splendour through her paintings.

Linda holds several "One Woman Shows" each year, the main one being held in November in her private working studio with adjoining gallery in Evergreen House. All of her new works for that year are displayed for the first time.

From time-to-time, Linda also holds solo exhibitions in other locations as well as contributing to several joint and society exhibitions around the country.

In addition to regular exhibitions for the public, Linda's gallery can be opened for private viewing by appointment only.  Please contact Linda to make an appointment.
